Indigenous Peoples Day 2026 in Cambodia was more than just a party, it was a deep celebration of recognition, respect, participation, cultural pride, and a shared commitment to the well-being and development of Indigenous Peoples.

Indigenous youths and communities showed their strength and energy in protecting their identity, culture, traditional knowledge, livelihoods, and natural resources. Their voices and leadership proved that Indigenous youths are not just the future, they’re important partners and leaders in Cambodia’s development today.

The participation of high-level representatives from the Cambodia National Assembly, the Prime Minister’s leadership, Deputy Ministers, relevant ministries, especially Ministry of Rural Development, UN agencies, NGOs, development partners, civil society organizations, and content creators also sent a powerful message that Indigenous Peoples are an important part of Cambodia’s social, cultural, and national development.

Since 9 August 2026, the Prime Minister’s Hun Manet expresses his sincere appreciation and admiration to all Indigenous Peoples for preserving and promoting their rich cultures, traditions, customs, and valuable heritage. These diverse cultural identities make Cambodia like a beautiful and vibrant “garden of many colors.”

He also mentions that beyond their cultural contributions, Indigenous Peoples have shows a strong sense of patriotism by actively protecting Cambodia’s borders and preserving its natural resources, which are some of our country’s most precious assets.

This celebration also really gets behind Cambodia’s National Policy on the Development 2009. This policy is a big deal because it’s a national framework that helps Cambodia recognize and support Indigenous Peoples. It covers everything from their identity, education, culture, health, livelihoods, community development, and how they participate in society.

The event across the country was the great way for Indigenous communities to show off their amazing cultural heritage. They had traditional performances, dances, Indigenous foods, traditional materials and handicrafts, songs, and non-timber forest products (NTFPs). These aren’t just cultural shows, they’re living knowledge, identity, resilience, and the contributions of Indigenous communities to Cambodia’s cultural and environmental heritage.

Indigenous Peoples Day 2026, shows us that when government, Indigenous communities, youths, development partners, civil society, and the Cambodian public all work together, we can build stronger connections, make sure everyone feels included, and give Indigenous Peoples more chances to contribute to Cambodia’s growth.

Cambodia is a place where diversity is celebrated, Indigenous cultures are cherished, Indigenous youths are supported, and Indigenous Peoples are seen as equal partners in creating a peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable society.

The International Day of Indigenous Peoples (IPs Day) was established on December 23, 1994, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 49/214. This resolution declared that the International Day of Indigenous Peoples would be observed annually on August 9th worldwide. The date commemorates the inaugural meeting of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982.

In Cambodia, started celebrate the IPs Day since 2005 that Cambodian government has recognized that this day is the most important to preserve Indigenous identity, culture, performance, and nation’s spirit. Every year, Indigenous communities often organize the festival in their own community to boost solidarity, connection, revitalize cultures, and admire their ancestors.

In 2026, the Cambodian government, under the auspices of the Ministry of Rural Development, collaborated with Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPOs) and potential partners from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to organize 22th Indigenous Peoples Day on August 10th in Stung Treng province.

This event serves as a platform for the celebration of diverse Indigenous cultures and practices, as many Indigenous communities already commemorate their day within their respective communities.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being.”

Indigenous Peoples Day 2026, celebrating our identity, strengthening our voices, and building our shared future.

Do not bully others

When I was a kid, I was a boy who got more pressure all over from people who have no value and I thought the world is full of bullying. In fact, my shape was not looking good as now, my body was the thinnest with a big belly, ugliest, and was the most strange boy and I also have different thinking compared to everyone in my rural village.  There was a lot of bullying from my friends, neighbors, siblings, and sometimes from my teachers. Therefore, I was a sad boy from a poor family.  I was probably aged 10-year-old, no one liked me and most of my friends did not want to play football with me because at that time I have a big belly as in this photo above.  And I had no comfortable clothes like my friends. I did not talk too much with others because all the time that I started a conversation with them, they often rejected me and called me “Heya, អាក្មេងតេនញ៉ា ,” refers to a someone who has a huge belly and ugliest boy. So, I could not build strong relationships with those we...
