Biography of Bu Thang (លោកអ៊ុំព្រឹទ្ធិចារ្យ ប៊ូ ថង)


Bu Thang was an indigenous Tompuon leader, who came from a small indigenous village in the Ratanakiri,  Northeast of Cambodia. He was born on 15 August 1938 in Kachon Village, Kachon Commune, Vern Sai District, Rattanakiri Province. He died at 1:20 am on 12 September 2019  (Aged 82 years) at the Calmette Hospital, Phnom Penh.

He was a former senior Cambodian Officials. He was a first leader of indigenous peoples in the Cambodia history.

He has five children as well as Thang Savon was former governor of Ratanakiri Province, and he currently  becoming an official governor of Mondulkiri Province.  Bu Thang had participated the soldier and political training session from 1954-1970 in Vietnam (North of Vietnam).

Bu Thang was super smart leader for Cambodian peoples in the history, He had sacrificed to find peace for all of us. Additionally, he could speak three foreign languages such as Vietnamese, Loas and Thai. He promised to work in the state framework in 1970.  In 1974, he went to Vietnam and he joined the National Salvation Front to help to fight Khmer Rouge Genocide. After that he was becoming a member of the Political of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cambodia and he had always been a member of Cambodian People’s Party.

He was a former Deputy Minister, Minister of National Defense from 1992-1996 with four-star general. After the election, he became the member of Parliament for Ratanakiri Province from 1993 to 2012 and he also became a Chairman of the Fourth Committee of Senate from 2012 to 2016.

Before his last retirement, he received an advisor for Samdech Say CHHUM, the President of Senate of Cambodia.
